Movie Soundtrack for Jia Fu by Ellery Ngiam

Second film soundtrack for Ellery. The particular challenge of the soundtrack for this was the need to find a singaporean sound for a Singaporean movie.

I felt obliged to ensure that there was a certain Chinese-like quality without sucumbing to mindless pentatonic scales and other cliches.

The result was music for piano, cello and viola. Western instruments for what is essentially a western styled country in Asia. However, gesturally, I hope that besides the sentimentality of the music, that there was also a definite Asian tinge.
